     The Blackish Oystercatcher is a coastal bird found in Peru, Chile, Argentina and the Falkland Islands. It is virtually identical in appearance with the American Black Oystercatcher, Haematopus bachmani, which is restricted to the west coast of North America, ranging from the Aleutians to Baja California (below).

     The American Black Oystercatcher ranges from upper Baja California north along the Pacific coast through the Aleutians. Seattle Aquarium (left) and Monterey Bay Aquarium (right). It is very similar to the Blackish Oystercatcher in South America (above). Contrast its pinkish legs with the flesh-colored legs of the Blackish Oystercatcher.
